Secondary air spring system

Secondary air spring system

GMT

Description:

Secondary air spring systems form the elastic connection between the bogie frame and the vehicle body. They support the car body, isolate vibrations and shock loads, and improve ride comfort under changing operating and passenger-load conditions.

Depending on the vehicle configuration, the system can also support load compensation and maintain a controlled vehicle level. Secondary air spring systems are manufactured in Germany in various sizes and technical configurations. Project-specific versions can be produced according to technical drawings, existing components or customer specifications.

Typical Application Areas:

City Transport · DMUs · EMUs · High-Speed Trains · Metro · Passenger Coaches · Rail Transport · Rubber-metal parts · Trams

Secondary Suspension and Ride Comfort

Air spring systems are used in the secondary suspension of rail vehicles to reduce the transfer of vibration and dynamic forces from the bogie to the vehicle body. Their elastic characteristics help separate the passenger compartment from wheel–rail disturbances and improve running comfort.

The system supports vertical movement and can accommodate relative movement between the bogie and car body while maintaining stable load transfer during operation

Key Technical Benefits

  • effective isolation of vibration and structure-borne noise;
  • improved passenger comfort and vehicle running behaviour;
  • controlled transfer of vertical and lateral loads;
  • compensation for changing vehicle loads;
  • reduction of dynamic stress on the vehicle body;
  • support for controlled vehicle levelling;
  • reliable performance under repeated cyclic loading.

Project-Specific System Design

Secondary air spring systems can be developed for new rolling stock, maintenance, overhaul, refurbishment and vehicle modernisation projects.

Each configuration is engineered for the intended bogie architecture and installation environment. Project-specific production is possible based on an existing technical drawing, original component or defined customer specification.

Project-Specific Manufacturing

Steering rods are manufactured in different lengths, connection arrangements and bearing configurations according to the intended bogie design.

Custom versions can be produced according to an existing technical drawing, original component, physical sample or defined customer specification.

Each application is technically reviewed and calculated individually before production to ensure that the component meets the agreed force-transmission, movement and installation requirements.

German Production and Quality Control

Secondary air spring systems are manufactured in Germany under quality management systems certified to ISO 9001 and ISO 22163.

Each system is verified against the agreed technical and functional requirements. Depending on the project specification, validation may include service-life assessment and single- or multi-axial dynamic testing to confirm reliable performance under operating loads.

The finished products are supplied with an EN 10204 3.1 inspection certificate
